They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
For the Kings, and the physical demands they have day-in and day-out, it’s important for the players to get their systems filled with a nutritious meal before they take the ice for a morning practice.
Melanie Barsuk, from The Simple Gourmet Kitchen, operates as the players’ personal chef for their morning meals on any given day.
“It’s really cool to cook for professional athletes, because you’re cooking for performance,” Barsuk says. “Food is their fuel.”
Barsuk works with the Kings’ coaches, trainers and nutritionists to figure out what she needs to prepare for the players’ morning spread – which is BIG on protein!
