LAKings.com reports that the Buffalo Sabres have claimed LW Matt Ellis
off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings while the Kings returned Andrei Loktionov
to Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League.
Ellis split last season between Detroit and Los Angeles, picking up eight points (3-5=8) in 54 games. He started the season with the Red Wings, but was claimed off waivers by the Kings on Feb. 21, 2008. Ellis has eight points in 70 career NHL games.
Ellis played with Detroit’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids from 2003-07, collecting 153 points (69+84) in 282 games.
A native of Welland, Ont., Ellis played four years of junior hockey with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors of the Ontario Hockey League. Ellis signed as an undrafted free agent with Detroit in May 2002
The Kings have 35 players remaining on their 2008 Training Camp roster (19 forwards, 12 defensemen and four goaltenders), including defenseman Sean O’Donnell who was acquired on Tuesday from Anaheim.
