LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Kings forward Pavol Demitra is expected to undergo a surgical procedure on Friday to repair a nasal fracture, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced.
The surgery is expected to allow Demitra, 31, to correct breathing difficulties due to an injury he suffered during the Olympics in February. The surgical procedure is scheduled to be performed by Dr. Chester Griffiths, a member of the Kings medical staff.
Demitra has played in one game with the Kings since returning from the Olympics after he took a puck to the face during a game while representing his native Slovakia.
In 51 games with the Kings this season, his first with the club, the 6-0, 206-pound native of Dubnica, Slovakia, has 57 points (22-35=57) and 36 penalty minutes with compiling a plus-21 rating, best on the club. His 57 points rank third on the team, his 22 goals rank second and his 35 assists rank third.
