The playoffs may be out of reach, but a championship is still on the line for 16 members of the LA Kings.
That's right, folks... BARK MADNESS IS BACK!
And the up-and-coming youngers are ready to take on the seasoned vets.
Sorry, Meatball Luff, we didn't mean that kind of "vet."
It's somehow already the fifth year of Bark Madness (35th year if you're counting in dog years), and the Kings only have one former winner on their roster.
Gone are previous champions Emma Pearson (2016), Arlo Dowd (2017) and Daryl Muzzin (2018), but a new crop of pups are aiming to ascend to the throne.
Newcomers Leo Brodzinski, Meatball Luff, Duncan Leipsic, Cope Wagner and Kenni Roy are hoping they can create their own Cinderella story, beginning with an opening round upset as they each go up against a Bark Madness veteran in the Sweet 16.
Gustl Kopitar, the winner of the innagural Bark Madness in 2015, is looking to become the first-ever two-time champion, while former runners-up Hank Martinez and Reggie Doughty are aiming to finally be recognized for the good boys that they are.
The opening round of Bark Madness 2019 will be slightly different this year.
All voting will be conducted via @LAKings Twitter and Instagram Stories and the Sweet 16 matchups will be open for 24 hours.
Starting at 12 p.m., there will be a new matchup unveiled each hour. Once a matchup is live, that specific voting period will be open for 24 hours. The analytics nerds at the Kings office will tally the votes and determine the winner.
So we encourage all campaigning, bribing, and tweeting at celebrities to help gain support your favorite Kings' pups.
