Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar won the Lady Byng Trophy at the 2016 NHL Awards in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

The award is given to "the player who best exhibits sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."

Kopitar, who was third in Lady Byng voting last season, had 74 points and a plus-34 rating with 16 penalty minutes. He is the first Kings player to win the award since Wayne Gretzky in 1994. Kopitar was named Los Angeles captain on Thursday.
