LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Adrian Kempe to a three-year entry-level contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
The 18-year-old Kempe (born on Sep. 13, 1996) is a 6-1, 187-pound native of Kramfors, Sweden, who has appeared in 95 career regular season games with Modo (SHL), totaling 28 points (10-18=28) and 54 penalty minutes. In six postseason games, he has recorded four points (1-3=4), a plus-4 rating and two penalty minutes.
A first round (29th overall) selection of the Kings at the 2014 NHL Draft, Kempe tallied 17 points (5-12=17) and 42 penalty minutes this season. He finished the season ranked tied for second on the team in assists.
Internationally, Kempe has appeared in both the U-18 and U-20 World Junior Hockey Championships as a member of Team Sweden. In the 2013-14 season, he registered seven points (1-6=7) in seven games, helping Team Sweden to the Bronze Medal game, before falling to Team Canada. In 2014-15, Kempe tallied eight points (4-4=8), ranking tied for ninth in the tournament in points as he led Team Sweden to another fourth place finish.
