The Kings returned to game action for the first time since December 19th after the brief league-wide shutdown stemming from another COVID-19 outbreak. In chaotic fashion, the Kings and Golden Knights combined to score four goals (three for Vegas, one for LA) in a 1:16 span midway into the first period. Adrian Kempe, the Kings lone goalscorer in the first period used his speed and skill to finish off an in-tight lone break, notching his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Trevor Moore recorded the Kings second goal of the game, this time shorthanded as the Thousand Oaks native beat Golden Knights goalie Laurent Brossoit five hole on a breakaway off of a beautiful aerial pass from defenseman Matt Roy. The last Kings goalscorer came from the stick of Alex Iafallo, as the team's second highest point getter roofed a gorgeous short-side snipe.
Ultimately, the Kings fell 6-3, squandering an opportunity to jump within one point of the playoffs.
Notable Performances:

  • Kings prospect and fifth overall draft pick in 2019 Alex Turcotte made his NHL debut, recording three shots and 12:08 TOI.
  • Anze Kopitar (0-1=1) registered his team-leading 19th assist of the season. His assist surpassed Wayne Gretzky (672) for second on the all-time Kings assists list. He has assists in each of the last two games and four points over the last five games (1-3=4).
  • Sean Durzi (0-1=1) registered his sixth assist of the season, fourth most among NHL rookie defensemen.
  • Brendan Lemieux appeared in his 200th career NHL game and Lias Andersson appeared in his 100th career NHL game.
