General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff announced today that with their first ever selection in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the Winnipeg Jets are proud to select centre Mark Scheifele of the Barrie Colts.
Taken by the Jets with the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Scheifele recently completed his rookie season with Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League. Scheifele led all OHL rookies with 53 assists in 2010-11, and also added 22 goals for 75 points in 66 games played. Scheifele also competed at the Under-18 World Championships where he led all Team Canada scorers with six goals in seven tournament games.
The Kitchener, ON native has already been invited to join Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Development Camp in August 2011 as one of 46 players invited to the camp taking place in Edmonton and Fort McMurray, AB.
