The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation, in support of the True North Hockey Academy was pleased to host a celebration day on May 8th, 2012 at the MTS Centre. The year end party was put on to celebrate the overall success of the True North Hockey Academy from the 2011-12 season, and to give all the participants involved a big pat on the back.
The six schools involved totaling 150 kids, were: Buchanan Elementary, Hedges Middle School, Crestview Elementary, Strathcona Elementary, Donwood Elementary, and Chief Peguis Junior High. All participating schools were invited to attend the event at the MTS Centre for an afternoon of fun and games.
In addition to the program partakers, approximately 100 parents and school friends, 50 volunteers and 50 staff including school admin, school champions and superintendents came out to support the celebration.
First off was the hockey game. Schools were paired up according to age and experience to face-off in a full game while their parents and peers cheered them on from the stands. After all three games were completed, the group split into three groups for a full tour of the MTS Centre facilities including the Jets and visitors dressing rooms. Jets forward Nik Antropov was in the Jets gym for a workout at the time, so the kids were able to meet one of their heroes as an added bonus.
After the tour wrapped up, all of the skaters, volunteers and staff gathered at the Exchange Restaurant for a nice banquet lunch. Each participant was given a commemorative Jets t-shirt to keep as a memorable souvenir from the 2011-2012 TNHA season.
The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation and the True North Hockey Academy would like to thank all the participants and their families, all volunteers and staff for your great support this season. It takes everyone to work together to run such a successful program. Thank you!VIEW FULL PHOTO GALLERY
