Team White defeats Team Blue 25-11 at the Winnipeg Jets Skills Competition Presented by Home Depot
/ Winnipeg Jets
The MTS Centre filled with hundreds of fans of all ages to cheer on their favourite Jets and watch them battle each other in five different categories at The 2011 Winnipeg Jets Skills Competition powered by Home Depot.
The following five events were featured: Puck Control Relay, Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, AccuracyShooting and Breakaway competition.
Things started off close but with Kenndal McArdle fumbling around one of his last pylons, Mark Stuart took the first race in the first heat for team White and that little slip up in the first of three races allowed White to secure the win in the first heat.
Tim Stapleton surprised himself as he sent his first shot into the net going 96-miles an hour to set the tone for team White. He followed that up with a 94 and a 92.
It came down to Chris Thorburn for team White and Dustin Byfuglien for team Blue. Thorburn's best shot measured in at 98 miles per hour but couldn't beat the sniper hands of Byfuglien who shot 103, 101 and finally a 104 to top it off and win it for team Blue...their first challenge win of the night.
