The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club hosted their third annual Skills Competition on Wednesday, Dec. 17, with Team Blue winning the competition by a final tally of 26-19.
Members of the Winnipeg Jets competed head-to-head in five events: Fastest Skater Contest, Accuracy Shooting Challenge, Puck Control Relay, Breakaway Relay and the Hardest Shot Competition.
The winning members of Team Blue were Andrew Ladd, Byran Little, Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane, Grant Clitsome, Mathieu Perreault, Paul Postma, Adam Pardy, Matt Halischuk, Chris Thorburn, and Michael Hutchinson. Some of the event winners included Paul Postma in the fastest skater contest (13.90 seconds), Andrew Ladd in accuracy shooting (4-for-5 in 10.0 seconds), and Ben Chiarot in the hardest shot (103.0 mph). The goaltender with more saves in the breakaway relay was Michael Hutchinson, who turned away 7-of-10 breakaways.
The event was a great fan experience for the 12,045 Jets fans in attendance. With the glass removed from the sides of the rink, fans near ice level had an up-close look at their favourite Winnipeg Jets during the competition. There was also prize giveaways including autographed memorabilia handed out throughout MTS Centre.
Proceeds from the Winnipeg Jets Skills Competition will benefit the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation and the NHLPA Goals and Dreams Fund.
