HELLY NOV 14

WINNIPEG MB - So far on this home stand the Winnipeg Jets have kept the NHL's leading scorer Mikko Rantanen and the reigning Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall off the score sheet.

Wednesday night, another NHL star did not record a point. Alex Ovechkin.
This time it was different though, Rantanen and Hall were relatively non-factors but the Washington Capitals sniper got his looks. A lot of them - nine shots in total. Six of those shots came during the Capitals powerplay and each time Connor Hellebuyck was there with the answer - especially off a one timer early in the first period.
"Yeah he got over. There's no question where the puck is going and where it's going to come from but he was over square on all of them," said Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice.
The Jets and Capital's powerplays have been tops in the league this season. When Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was asked what it's like to face Ovechkin, his answer was simple.
"Not very fun to be honest," said Hellebuyck.
"The guy can shoot and he has a lot of powerplay goals and you're alone with him, it's a scary thought."
Hellebuyck gets to see a booming one timer often in practice from Patrik Laine who sets up in a similar spot when the Jets have the man advantage. Yet he didn't want to say he is lucky to have someone like Laine firing bombs at him day after day.
"I'm going to prepare the same way no matter whose over there," said Hellebuyck.
"This is the NHL. All guys have good shots and obviously he's (Ovechkin) has a good shot and so does Patty but everyone is unique."
Since the calendar changed to November, Hellebuyck has only posted one game with a save percentage below .900, which was the loss to Florida in the second game of the Global Series in Helsinki.
The other four games he has a combined save percentage of .947 with all of those games resulting in Jets victories.
