Scott Kosmachuk, RW – Guelph Storm (OHL)
Scott Kosmachuk is turning a good week into a great month with another dominant few games for the Guelph Storm. After recording a four-point game on Oct. 13, Kosmachuk continued a goal streak through last week highlighted by his first four-goal, five-point night on Oct. 20 versus Ottawa. The former third-round pick scored nine goals in a span of six games between Oct. 11–20. For his efforts, Kosmachuk was recognized as the OHL Player of the Week, earning six goals and three assists in three games.
Nicolas Petan, C – Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
The WHL’s co-defending leading scorer had a breakout week scoring 10 points (2G, 8A) in a four-game span between Oct. 12-19 and earning WHL Player of the Week honours. Nicolas Petan and the Winterhawks won all four games, outscoring their opponents 24-10 in the process. Petan is now second in WHL scoring trailing only Spokane’s Mitch Holmberg.
Matt White, C – Ontario Reign (ECHL)
Matt White, formerly of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, has to be happy with his pro debut. White scored twice in his first game with the Ontario Reign, helping the Jets’ ECHL affiliate to a 3-0 season opening win over Bakersfield. White scored a power play goal late in the first period and an insurance marker in the third, finishing the night with two goals, four shots and a +1 rating.
Ben Chiarot, D – St. John’s IceCaps (AHL)
While plus/minus isn’t always a reliable statistic when indicating a player’s impact, it’s hard to ignore a +4 rating in any game. Blue line partners Ben Chiarot and Brenden Kichton recorded a matching +4 rating on Oct. 18 versus Hershey as the IceCaps marched to a 5-1 win. Chiarot contributed a goal and an assist in the win, leading St. John’s in scoring on the night. Chiarot is off to an impressive start with five points (2G, 3A) and a team-best +7 rating through six games.
Michael Hutchinson, G – Ontario Reign (ECHL)
Michael Hutchinson has been perfect so far this season. Following his first game with the Ontario Reign, the 23-year-old goaltender has a shutout and 1-0-0 record. Hutchinson stopped all 15 shots he faced on Oct. 19 versus Bakersfield. Prior to Saturday’s game, the Barrie, ON native hadn’t played in the ECHL since Jan. 29/12 when he last suited up for the Reading Royals.
