The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club is proud to announce that Olli Jokinen has been named to Finland’s Olympic Men’s Hockey Team for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The XXII Olympic Winter Games will take place from Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 23, 2014.
Jokinen, 35, has played in 45 games with the Winnipeg Jets so far this season. In that time, the Kuopio, Finland native has recorded 27 points (10G, 17A) and 24 penalty minutes. Over two seasons with the Jets, the left-handed centre has appeared in 90 games for 41 franchise points (17G, 24A) and 38 franchise penalty minutes.
Jokinen has played in 1132 career NHL games between Los Angeles, New York Islanders, Florida, Calgary, New York Rangers and Winnipeg for 724 career points (309G, 415A) and 1005 penalty minutes.
He has won two Olympic medals for Finland over his career – a Silver Medal in 2006 and a Bronze Medal in 2010. Outside of the Olympics, Jokinen has earned five World Championship Medals (two Silver, three Bronze), one World Cup Medal (Silver) and one World Junior Championship Medal (Gold). He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, third overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
