With 2:28 left in regulation, Michal Handzus scored to break a 3-3 tie, shattering Canada's dreams of getting through the quarter-finals and into the semi-final round. The Slovaks were on a five-minute power play after Ryan Getzlaf took a knee-on-knee major penalty. Slovakia will play the winner of Sweden-Czech Republic in one semi-finals on Saturday.

The Slovaks went up 2-0 in the first period but Evander Kane cut the lead by one at 16:14 of the period after Ryan Getzlaf dug the puck out of the corner and out to Kane to finish the play. The goal marked Kane's fourth goal and seventh point of the tournament. Through eight games, he recorded a plus-6, a total of 28 shots on net and a total of 120:02 of ice time.

Andrew Ladd picked up an assist on Canada's third goal by Alexandre Burrows at 37:43 of the second period to go up 3-2 in the game. Through eight games, Ladd finished with a goal and four assists, had a plus-7, took 16 shots on net and played 91:03 of ice time.
