Jim Ludlow recipient of Business Achievement Award
/ Winnipeg Jets
True North Sports & Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ludlow was the winner in the Business Achievement Category at the Western Canada General Counsel Awards. The award was presented last night at a banquet held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Business Achievement category recognizes that the transition from lawyer to senior executive directing a corporation is a difficult one. The judges seek to identify a practicing lawyer who has successfully made that leap, and who has gone on to excel amongst the champions of industry. The award recipient in this category is traditionally someone who is no longer a full time practicing GC but has demonstrated the ability to both set and implement the overall strategy and success of the division or company’s business.
Jim Ludlow has served as the President & Chief Executive Officer of True North Sports & Entertainment Limited since the inception of the company in 2000. In that capacity, Ludlow provides strategic, management, and financial leadership to True North and its operating subsidiaries, MTS Centre, the Winnipeg Jets, the MTS Iceplex and MTS Exhibition Hall.
Prior to coming to True North, Ludlow was a partner with a senior Western Canadian law firm. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ludlow attended the University of Manitoba, earning a B.A., and Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, where he received his law degree. He is past chair emeritus of CentreVenture Development, City of Winnipeg's downtown development agency, a board member of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Alpine Canada and is an Honorary Colonel with 1 CFFTS at 17 Wing Winnipeg.
Other nominees in the category for the Business Achievement Award were Leslie O’Donoghue, Agrium Inc; Hannelie Stockenstrom, SNC-Lavalin; Daniel Simnoelli, TransCanada Turbines Ltd; Peter Rozee, Teck Resources Ltd.
