WINNIPEG, Aug. 17, 2022 -The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club will induct Teemu Selanne and Teppo Numminen as the ninth and tenth members of the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame in November. The two Finnish stars from the Jets 1.0 era will have their banners raised to the rafters of Canada Life Centre at a Hall of Fame induction ceremony prior to the Jets' Thursday, Nov. 17 matchup against the Anaheim Ducks.
Selanne and Numminen will join Bobby Hull, Ulf Nilsson, Anders Hedberg, Dale Hawerchuk, Ab McDonald, Lars-Erik Sjoberg, Randy Carlyle and Thomas Steen as members of the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, which was established in 2016 to honour the accomplishments of the team's alumni and to celebrate the rich history of the Winnipeg Jets and their impact on our city and province. "Winnipeg gave me my start in the NHL and holds a special place in my heart," said Selanne. "I have a lot of great on-ice memories from my time playing in the city, but equally as many off-ice memories in a community that has made me feel like one of their own since day one. I feel beyond privileged to be recognized by the Jets in this way, and to do it alongside my good friend Teppo is a true honour."
"To be inducted into the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame alone means a great deal, but to be inducted with Teemu is beyond words for me," said Numminen. "I couldn't have asked for a better city to play the first eight years of my NHL career in, and to be recognized in front of the same passionate community that made playing hockey a treat every single night will be an unforgettable moment for my family and I."
"Teemu and Teppo have made indelible marks as part of Winnipeg Jets history and have deep connections to the city and with Winnipeg fans," said Mark Chipman, Executive Chairman of the Winnipeg Jets. "We are excited and honoured to celebrate their outstanding achievements as Winnipeg Jets and make our admiration and gratitude official with an induction into the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame."
Selanne and Numminen will also be celebrated earlier in the week at this year's Winnipeg Jets Gala on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Held on the floor of Canada Life Centre, the gala will be an in-person event for the first time since 2019. Along with honouring Selanne and Numminen, the gala will provide fans with a night of mingling with current Winnipeg Jets players and coaches, and the opportunity to bid on unique Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose experiences. All proceeds of the event support the
True North Youth Foundation
