The Winnipeg Jets were pleased to announce the winners of their regular season year-end awards prior to their game versus the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at MTS Centre.
The first award of the night was the McDiarmid Lumber Three Stars Award which was handed out to goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pavelec has been recognized game-after-game for his solid play and highlight reel performances. He received a star of the game award seven times at MTS Centre this season with two of those times being first-star honors.
The second award of the evening was the Northwest Company Community Service Award which was presented to defenceman Zach Bogosian for his commitment to our community through charitable involvement, school, hospital and community visits and other philanthropic endeavors. Bogosian has been quick to call Winnipeg his new home and has become very active not only on the ice, but off the ice. Bogosian has taken it upon himself to make various hospital and senior home visits on his own this past year, as well as promote recycling through his partnership with Recycle Everywhere. He also promotes youth hockey as he plays a key role with the True North Hockey Academy as he is the face of the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation.
Lastly, the Dan Snyder Memorial award is awarded each year to the Winnipeg Jets player who embodies perseverance, dedication and hard work without reward or recognition, so that his team and teammates might succeed. Dan Snyder was a member of the Atlanta Thrashers who passed away tragically in 2003. Snyder played 49 games with the Thrashers for 23 career points (11G, 12A) and 39 penalty minutes. General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was on hand to present Zach Redmond with the award. Redmond has showed his dedication to this team in more ways than one this season. After appearing in his NHL debut with the Jets this season and scoring his first NHL goal, Redmond endured a life-threatening injury that put his young career at a halt. Despite the concerns that he may never play again, his determination, strong will, and work-ethic made for a speedy recovery. His positive demeanor in times of hardship and his constant desire to work hard and remain motivated is what makes him a worthy recipient of this honorable award.
Representatives from the Jets corporate partners were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies to present the award winners with their trophies.
