Jets agree to terms with Winnipeg native Derek Meech

The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with defenceman Derek Meech. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Meech, 26, appeared in 74 games last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League where he scored 37 points (10g, 27a) and collected 81 penalty minutes. The Winnipeg, MB native has played in 126 career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings from 2006 to 2010. In that span, he scored 16 points (4g, 12a) and collected 39 penalty minutes. Meech also played in a pair of Stanley Cup playoff games with the Red Wings in 2009. In 304 career AHL games with the Griffins from 2004 to 2011, Meech scored 102 points (27g, 75a) and collected 246 penalty minutes.
Meech was originally drafted by the Red Wings in the seventh round, 229th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
