The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with goaltender Al Montoya on a new contract. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"I really enjoyed my time last year," said Montoya, Thursday afternoon. "This is a good group, it's a good team and we came so close last year. For me, I like the coaching staff and working with the goalie coach, Flats. It was pretty simple. The city is great, my family likes it and I think this team is moving in the right direction."
Montoya, 28, played in seven games for the Winnipeg Jets last season. In that time, he earned a 3-1-0 record, 2.91 goals against average and 0.899 save percentage.
How many games he plays next year, was not a concern for the Chicago, IL native.
"Who knows," he said. "I know it's going to be a crazy year. Injuries were a part of it, (last year) and it was a screwy year with the lockout and having to look after your own body for the first half of the year. I'm just excited to get back. With the playing part and the Olympic break, I don't expect the pace of this season to be much different from the last."
He has suited up for 63 career NHL games between the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets for a 24-18-10 career record, 2.77 career goals against average and 0.906 career save percentage.
He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round, sixth overall, in the 2004 NHL Draft.Al Montoya
