In Scheifele's absence, Blake Wheeler has moved from the wing to centre the past two games. The captain recorded an assist in each game, and won 14 of the 31 face-offs he took.
"You have a little bit more responsibility in the D zone. I think that's my priority. Try to be on the right side of the puck, try to win battles down low," said Wheeler. "I feel like whenever we get the puck, we're going to create offensive chances by just doing the right thing. It has been my focus.
"Two kind of tough buildings to get thrown into the fire, but two wins, you have to be happy with it."
The Jets have won back-to-back games five times this season, and look to make it three in a row against a Red Wings team that is 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, including Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over the New York Islanders.
In the first meeting between the two teams back on Nov. 4, Brandon Tanev scored his first two NHL goals. One tied the game, the other put the Jets ahead for good in a 5-3 win.
"He's one of our faster players and relentless on the puck," Wheeler said of Tanev. "He does all those things that maybe don't show up on the stat sheet so often, but what pushes you over the top to being a really good team."

Henrik Zetterberg leads the Red Wings in points with 19, including a goal in each of his last three games. He's just one of the players Adam Lowry believes the Jets will have to keep an eye on if they want to open this quick two-game home stand on a winning note.
"You look at the Red Wings and they're a similar style more so to the Hawks," said Lowry. "Quick transition, really responsible defensively, and they have guys that can hurt you off the rush. (Gustav) Nyquist, Zetterberg, guys like that, when given the opportunity can put the puck in the net."
Puck drop is set for 7 pm CT.

LATE HITS: Maurice also had updates on a few of the other injured Jets.
Tyler Myers skated prior to morning skate for the first time since his lower body injury occurred on Nov. 11. There is no timetable as of yet for his return, but Maurice says it's not related to the defenceman's off-season surgeries.
Maurice did have a timetable for Joel Armia and Shawn Matthias, who have been out with lower body injuries since the first week of November.
"I think we're still on track for Armia mid-to-late December, Matthias late December early January," he said. "Nic Petan is still a good 10 days out, maybe two weeks. That one there is a bigger window on when he gets back feeling good."
