WINNIPEG - Nathan Beaulieu will miss the rest of the season after the veteran defenceman underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum on Thursday.
Head coach Paul Maurice said the 28-year-old had been playing with the ailment prior to breaking a bone in his hand, which was the injury that caused him to come out of the line-up on Mar. 9 in Toronto.
"Three broken bones last year, another one this year, the shoulder, scratching and clawing to kind of be a player for us. He's a really important part of that room because of it," said Maurice. "The people that invest a lot, that give a lot to their teammates, are always the ones that you, it's so painful when they go down."

At the time of his injury, Beaulieu was third on the team in blocked shots with 30 in 25 games.
He was also a big part of the team's penalty kill slowly moving up the National Hockey League ranks. Beaulieu's average of 1:44 of shorthanded ice time was the fifth most on the team, and third most among defencemen.
The surgery was successful, which Maurice said puts a bit of a positive light on the situation.
The labrum injury was one that Beaulieu had been resting and rehabilitating as much as possible in the middle of a regular season grind.
"With those injuries, unless it's a catastrophic tear, there is always rehab or repair," Maurice said. "There is always a discussion - what's the best way to do it? It deteriorated to the point where he got a broken bone, this thing is not feeling better, it's got to get done to give him a chance to be 100 per cent healthy and be a player next year."
Beaulieu has played 81 regular season games in a Jets jersey since being acquired at the trade deadline in February of 2019.
He has 14 points in that span.
"We believe that when he's done he's going to be back, and he deserves that right," said Maurice. "The one thing we know about Beau is he's not going to milk it. He's going to be back the day he's supposed to be back and ready to play, for sure."
