Born in Joilette, Quebec, DeBlois became a dominant player on the right wing and centre positions throughout his time in the league. After retiring, he was involved with the Television business, working as a colour broadcaster for RDS, the French sister station to TSN. After covering games with RDS in the NHL, as well as internationally, DeBlois was connected with the Quebec Nordiques as a scout for the team. In the 1993-94 season he took over as assistant coach for the Nordiques and transitioned back to scouting the next year. In the 1995-96 season, DeBlois transitioned again to become the coach and general manager of the Moncton Junior team in the Quebec Junior League.
From Quebec, DeBlois moved to Kansas City where he spent his time as the assistant coach of the Kansas City Blades before getting back into scouting full-time for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim until 2003, when he started working as a professional scout for the Vancouver Canucks. Lucien has stayed very involved in the hockey community, spending the majority of his time traveling around to watch the top prospects.
DeBlois explained that he continued scouting in order to stay in one location: "I didn't want to move around every year or be away from my kids, who were teenagers at the time, so I didn't want to uproot them."
Although DeBlois's life revolves around hockey, he has a passion for golf, and plays a lot during his free time. He takes his kids out for a game of golf in the summer and still enjoys playing in charity tournaments when he gets the opportunity. Further, Lucien has run a couple of small companies in the past, as well as helped remodel a few different houses.
Being French Canadian, DeBlois thoroughly enjoyed being able to immerse himself in the French community here in Winnipeg.
"It made it a lot of fun for me because I could cross the river and speak French just like I could at home," he said.
Apart from the French aspect, DeBlois reflects fondly on the enthusiasm of the hockey culture in Winnipeg, and how the fans took ownership of their hockey team. Having the opportunity to play alongside Dale Hawerchuk, Scott Arniel, and Thomas Steen helped the Winnipeg Jets accomplish the most improved team from one season to the next, and DeBlois takes pride in what they were able to do during his time in Winnipeg.
"We used to travel a lot as a team, which created a lot of camaraderie and made it a lot of fun," DeBlois said.
The teammates he was able to play with made his time as a Winnipeg Jet truly special, in addition to the hockey atmosphere and long-standing support from the Winnipeg fans.
