The countdown to the 2014-2015 season is ticking by, and with 34 days to go until puck drop, goaltender Michael Hutchinson takes the spotlight of today’s blog.
Hutchinson began last season with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, and posted a record of 22-4-2 in 28 games. From there, he went east to the St. John’s IceCaps, where he saw action in 24 regular season games, winning 17 of them. The 24-year-old netminder from Barrie, Ontario picked up his first NHL win in a shootout over Boston on April 10, 2014, and followed that up with a regulation win in Calgary the next night. At the conclusion of the NHL season, Hutchinson rejoined the IceCaps and backstopped the team to the Calder Cup final series, where they fell to Texas in five games.
