The Winnipeg Jets rookies arrived in Penticton, BC late into the evening on Thursday night to get ready for their three-game tournament this weekend. They kick off the first game today against the San Jose Sharks rookies at 6:00 pm CST.
Bright and early this morning, the team hit the ice for just their second full practice together. They had to work quickly to develop some chemistry before they put their skills on display for the Jets management and coaching staff.
For most of these young Jets' hopefuls, this marks the first time at this NHL rookie tournament. Players like J.C Lipon, Nic Petan and 2013 first-round selection Josh Morrissey, are excited to get on the ice to showcase their talent in hopes of receiving an invite to regular training camp next week.
"This week I'm trying to get better each day and get more comfortable every time I'm on the ice," said Morrissey after the morning skate. "Hopefully get that edge for main camp and keep on moving along. I like the concept, it's nice to get a chance to play against other teams and other teams' prospects and it's nice to not have to beat up on your buddies. I can't wait to get going."
For players like Mark Scheifele, Jacob Trouba, Adam Lowry and Lucas Sutter, this is their chance to show the Winnipeg Jets brass where they are at physically and mentally and that they are ready to fight for a roster spot this fall.
Tonight's game will be streamed live on Winnipegjets.com at 6:00 pm CST. Stay tuned for the live link!
