Alexei Yashin and Russia are off to the semifinals in Olympic play after defeating Canada 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Torino.

In other games on Wednesday, USA fell to Finland 4-3 despite another strong effort by goaltender Rick DiPietro. The US rallied in the third, but came up just short. Also, the Czech Republic defeated Miroslav Satan and Slovakia 3-0.

In the day's other game, Sweden defeated Switzerland 6-2.

The action picks up again on Friday, Feb. 24 when Russia takes on Finland at 3:00 pm and the Czech Republic battles Sweden at 10:30 am (both times Eastern).

The winners will meet on Sunday, Feb. 26 for the Gold, while the loser will meet on Saturday, Feb. 25 for the Bronze. Check for the latest TV schedule on where the games can be found.

At practice on Wednesday afternoon, Islanders head coach Brad Shaw said he expects US Olympians DiPietro, Jason Blake and Mark Parrish along with Satan to arrive back on Long Island before the weekend.
