Weekly Prospect Watch

Oklahoma-born Matt Donovan helped the United States win the 2008 Junior A Challenge against Canada, and was named to the tournament's All-Star team. Also, 2008 draft pick Aaron Ness helped Minnesota moved up to No. 2 in the national rankings, while Sarnia forward Matt Martin and Lewiston forward Max Gratchev earn First Star of the Game honors.

Name: Matt Donovan

Update: Donovan and the United States captured 2008 World Junior A Challenge title in Camrose, Alberta, with a 7-1 victory over Canada West in the finals. Donovan led all USA defensemen in points with six (3+3) in five games. Donovan scored two goals––including the game-winner––and added an assist in USA's 5-1 win over Canada East in the semifinals. For his outstanding play, Donovan was named to the tournament's All-Star Team.
 
What the Scouts are Saying: "It's exciting for Matt to play a major role in an impressive tournament and win the championship. He ended up playing on the first power play unit. His two goals in the semifinal and two assists in the final helped team USA to the title."

Update: Colgate split their weekend against conference foes Quinnipiac and Princeton. On Friday, Colgate won a tight 1-0 battle over Quinnipiac, but lost 2-1 in overtime to No. 9 Princeton. Day continues to lead the team with five goals.

Position: Left Wing

Acquired: Islanders 2008 sixth-round draft pick (175th overall)

Update: DiBenedetto earned the Third Star of the Game honors, scoring Sarnia's first goal in their 4-3 win over Kitchener on Saturday. DiBenedetto is tied for fourth in points and tied for sixth in goals in the OHL.

Update: Djurgardens had off last week. They resume play on Saturday against Skelleftea.



Name: Max Gratchev

Update: Gratchev was named the First Star of the Game in Lewiston's 4-3 win over Chicoutimi on Thursday. Gratchev tallied two goals and added an assist. He is third on the team in points.

Update:
North Dakota split their weekend series against No. 1 Colorado College. Gregoire scored North Dakota's fourth goal in their 7-4 loss on Saturday. He leads North Dakota freshmen in points. Their split moved North Dakota back into the top 20 nationally.

Update: Guthrie returned from injury and skated in his first two games of the season, going scoreless.

Update: Hamonic earned an assist in Moose Jaw's 8-2 loss to Medicine Hat on Wednesday. Hamonic is tied for first in points among Moose Jaw defensemen.

Update: Shawinigan continues to roll and extended their winning streak to 12 games. Lacroix and the Shawinigan defense have allowed the fourth fewest goals in the league.

Update: Martin earned First Star honors on Saturday, compiling a goal and an assist. Martin is tied for second on the team in goals and ranks second in points.

Update: Playing in its first conference games of the season, Clarkson earned a split, defeating Brown, but losing to Yale. Mason earned his first point––an assist––in Saturday's loss to Yale.

Update: Rakhshani helped Denver sweep Minnesota-Duluth over the weekend by tallying a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-1 win. Denver is now ranked No. 4 in the country.
