Simon Lacroix, Mark Katic and Jared Spurgeon will represent their Canadian Junior leagues in the ADT Canada/Russia Exhibition series later this month. This will be their last test before the 2009 World Junior Championship Canadian team is selected. Doug Rogers from Harvard scored twice in his team's first game of the season, while Jason Gregoire (North Dakota) scored the first two NCAA goals of his career. Out West, hard-shooting Jyri Niemi scored his first goal of the season for Saskatoon of the WHL.

Update:
Harvard began the season with a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth on Friday. Rogers chipped in with two assists to begin his junior year.

"It was wonderful to watch Doug play this weekend. He was very involved on the power play and penalty kill. He also did well on the faceoffs. It was good to see how much head coach Ted Donato used Doug."

Update: Colgate played no league games, but defeated the University of Ottawa 6-3 in an exhibition game.

Update: DiBenedetto showed last weekend that he can do more than just score. Along with his goal and an assist in Sarnia's 4-3 win against Plymouth on Sunday, DiBenedetto dropped the gloves in Sarnia's 5-0 win over London on Saturday.

Update: Donovan is representing the United States at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, Alberta. The US plays tonight versus Germany and tomorrow versus Canada East.


Name: Robin Figren
Position: Left Wing

League: Swedish Elite League
Acquired: Islanders 2006 third-round draft pick (70th overall)

Update: Figren and Djurgardens had a rough week, going 0-1-3 in that span. Figren recorded no points.


Name: Max Gratchev
Position: Left Wing
Team: Lewiston (7-12-0-0)^
League: QMJHL
Acquired: Islanders 2007 fourth-round draft pick (106th overall)
Stats to date: Games Played (16), Goals (3), Assists (7), Points (10), PIM (24)

Update: Gratchev picked up an assist in Lewiston's 5-3 win over Acadie-Bathurst on Saturday. In that same game, Gratchev recorded a team-high six shots.

Update: Gregoire tallied his first two NCAA goals this weekend. He notched the game-winner in North Dakota's 3-2 win over Wisconsin on Friday. Gregoire also scored the following day in his team's 5-2 loss to the same Badgers.

Update: Hamonic was selected to take part in the ADT Canada/Russia Exhibition Series later this month. A Russian Junior team will play in six games, two each against WHL players, OHL players and QMJHL players. This gives players one last opportunity to show their skills before World Junior Championship teams are selected.

Update: Katic was selected to represent the OHL at the ADT Canada/Russia challenge. Katic had an assist in Sarnia's 5-0 win over London on Saturday.
 
 
Name: Blake Kessel

Update: New Hampshire moved up to fifth in the national rankings after going 1-0-1 against Northeastern over the weekend. The UNH defense allowed two goals in each game.


Name: Simon Lacroix

Update: Shawinigan continued their dominance in the QMJHL, going 5-0-0-0 last week to remain atop the league standings. Lacroix picked up three assists in that span. Shawinigan has won 10 straight games.

Update: Martin contributed to Sarnia's two wins by scoring a goal on Saturday against Sarnia and setting up a goal on Sunday.

Update: Clarkson did not play in any league games last week. It returns to action with homes games against Brown and Yale on the weekend.
 

 
Name: Aaron Ness

Update: Minnesota played two against in-state rival Minnesota State this past weekend, playing to a 3-3 tie in the first contest, and winning game two 6-3. Ness had one assist in those games, giving him his first point of the year.
 
 
Name: Jyri Niemi

Update: Niemi notched his first goal of the year against first-place Calgary last week, helping Saskatoon to a 3-2 win. He also had an assist in a 6-2 loss to Regina.

Update: Poulin and Victoriaville had a rough week, losing their three contests.

Update: Alternate captain Rakhshani and his teammates played to a 2-2 tie on Friday and lost 3-2 on Saturday in a home-and-home series against Colorado College this weekend. Rakhshani had a goal in Friday’s game.

Update: Ridderwall made 25 saves in a 4-3 loss to MODO on Monday.

Update: OSU dropped two games on the road against arch-rival Michigan this past weekend, falling 4-3 on Friday, and 6-1 on Saturday. Sims did not have any points against the Wolverines.

Update: Weslosky took a loss in his lone start over the weekend. St. Cloud suffered a tough 5-1 loss against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday. Weslosky made ten saves.
