The New York Islanders held their first "We're All Islanders" school assembly of 2008 this morning at the Florence A. Smith School #2 in Oceanside. Steve Webb, Monica the Ice Girl, and Sparky were all on hand as the second and sixth graders of the school filled the auditorium to hear a powerful message on the importance of teamwork. The gang showed the children a video of the current Islanders relaying the message of teamwork, and then Steve spoke about how all these players, with different accents from all over the world, come together despite their different nationalities to try and win the Stanley Cup. Steve then had Sparky go into the crowd and choose a few students and a teacher to give another example of how teamwork is so effective. Three students competed as a team against a teacher who was by herself in a race to get a member of the team dressed in full goalie equipment. By working together, the group of students successfully dressed one of their piers while the teacher was still putting on her leg pads. With their message spread, Steve and his friends left the school, but not before all 900 children at the school walked away with a great gift bag.
