The Official Site of the New York Islanders

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

On Monday, November 5, rather than starting a school week off with math problems and vocabulary words, the children at Landing Elementary School in Glen Cove instead kicked off their week with a visit from Islanders alumni Steve Webb and Eric Cairns, as well as Monica the Ice Girl and Sparky as the “We’re All Islanders” School Assembly Program was held in their gym.  Over 300 students filled the gym and listened to Webb and Cairns speak about the importance of working together as a team, not just in sports but in life as well.  A video from training camp showed the kids how the current Islanders team, with players from all over the world speaking different languages, all still work together to be a successful team and make a run at the Stanley Cup.  The children learned that the same thing applies in the classroom, where the students must all come together to solve a problem or complete an assignment.  After their message was spread, Steve and Eric took a few questions and signed some autographs and left all the children of Landing Elementary a little smarter and made the start of their week much brighter.
