Statesman, former Secretary of State Colin Powell drops ceremonial first puck, praises owner Charles Wang for his dedication to expanding hockey in China and hosts Fellows from the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies at CCNY

General Colin Powell was an honored guest at today's Islanders-Carolina Hurricanes game at the Nassau Coliseum. Following an appearance on ABC's "The View," General Powell traveled via helicopter to the Coliseum, where he met with the Islanders team and then received an Islanders jersey from Bill Guerin in front of a jam-packed room of reporters.

"It's great to be here with my good friend Charles Wang and the Islanders," said General Powell. "I want to thank Charles for his lifelong commitment to growing hockey in China."

Bill Guerin joined Charles Wang, GM Garth Snow, Senior VP of Sales, Marketing and Operations Chris Dey and head coach Ted Nolan as the team presented General Powell with a personalized Islanders jersey bearing the number "1."

"General Powell, I'm honored to offer this Islanders jersey to you. We welcome you into the Islanders family," said Guerin.

Following a brief rendezvous with Islanders TV, General Powell dropped the ceremonial first puck, accompanied by Charles Wang, the Deputy Consul General of China in New York Kuang Weilin and Deputy Congress Head of Qiqihar Wang Xiaoping, as well as the Project Hope teams from Qiqihar and Harbin.

FSN broadcaster Deb Kaufman conducted an interview with General Powell, which was aired on the Video Board during the first period.

"I'm here hosting Fellows from the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies at The City College of New York. My alma mater is CCNY, and it's wonderful to be able to give back to the community. I received a quality education at CCNY for no expense. I'm pleased to be here with my good friend Charles, who is another graduate of a New York City public school, Queens College. He too has always taken the opportunity to give back."

Kaufman asked the General about his experience watching hockey.

"This is only the third hockey game I've seen, so I'm still learning this game," said General Powell. It's so fast."
