The Puck Starts Here

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

With a resurgence of interest in hockey taking over Long Island, the Island’s biggest team—the Islanders—is embracing the youngest of fans. The newly announced I.S.L.E. Program has been designed to help bring the game of hockey back into the physical education curriculum of Long Island elementary schools. For those kids who have yet be exposed to the game, this two-week program of physical education street hockey class will be an excellent first-time experience with the sport.

All schools will register with the Islanders to hold a two-week hockey unit, comprised of 6 to 10 classes. All schools who sign up for the program will receive a welcome packet to be filled out and sent back to the Islanders, an Islanders Street Learning Experience Playbook, a set of street hockey equipment to use during the unit, and a ticket voucher for each student who participates.
At the end of the unit, schools have the option to send a class from their school to the street hockey tournament in January, which is held during the Islanders Long Island Hockey Fest Weekend. Each class that weekend receives an additional ticket voucher to an Islanders game during Long Island Hockey Fest Weekend.
