NYI players among the top 10 in NHL categories


Several Islanders find themselves among the league leaders in categories that have helped the Orange and Blue to a 14-12-2 record through 28 games. The Islanders currently have a player in the top 10 in hits, blocks, faceoff percentage and shooting percentage, as well as wins and shutouts for a goaltender. Below is a breakdown of each category:

HITS

Trent Hunter finished fifth in the NHL in hits last season with 246. He is currently tied for fourth place this season with Dallas’ Brendan Morrow, while playing two fewer games.

Mike Sillinger’s name has become a familiarity over the past few years when talking about the best faceoff men in the game. The seventeen year veteran is currently tied for ninth in the NHL with a 56.3 winning percentage. Sillinger has ranked among the top 15 in faceoff winning percentage in each of the last six seasons.

SHUTOUTS
