Team USA Taps Gordon; Invites Okposo

Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon has been named as an assistant coach for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.


On Tuesday, USA Hockey announced that Islanders forward Kyle Okposo was one of 34 players invited to the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Orientation Camp from Aug. 17-19, at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Ill.

The camp is designed to assist in the preparation of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete at the Games, which will be held from Feb. 12-28.

Okposo played for Team USA during the
2009 IIHF Men's World Championship in Switzerland last month

Gordon, who is entering is second season with the Islanders, was an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team in Switzerland. Gordon was also a goaltender of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team.

“I am honored to be selected as part of Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games,” Gordon said.  “To have the opportunity to represent this great country once as a player and now as a coach is humbling and I look forward to working with the Team USA staff while we strive to win a gold medal.”
