John Tavares was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week on Monday, for the week ending on April 10.
The Islanders captain had nine points (4G, 5A) in four games last week, including back-to-back three-point games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals. Tavares’ efforts helped the Islanders go 3-0-1 in the four games he played, clinching a playoff berth in the process.
Tavares’ four-goal week helped the Mississauga, ON, native hit the 30-goal mark for the third time in his career, as he finished the season with a team-high 33 goals and 70 points. Tavares also hit 70 points for the second straight season and third time in his career.
Tavares, a two-time Hart Trophy nominee, has led the Islanders in scoring in six of the last seven seasons and has never finished lower than second.
Chicago's Patrick Kane and Washington's Alex Ovechkin were the league's second and third stars. Read NHL release here.
