Steve Webb, former Islanders forward and present Islanders Player Development Coach, made a big splash towards solidifying the growth of hockey on Long Island when earlier this year he created the W20 Foundation, dedicated to providing young student ice hockey players from all levels the ability to receive a partial scholarship towards either a specialized High School program and/or undergraduate course of study at an accredited College and/or University.

To just jump start his new program, Webb has organized the 1st Annual W20 Foundation Cocktail Gala for Thursday, August 23rd, 2007 from 7-11 pm. Expected to be one of the biggest events on Long Island this summer, the Cocktail Gala will include special Islanders guests Clark Gillies, Bob Nystrom, Rick DiPietro, Benoit Hogue and Eric Cairns as well as West Islip native and current Montreal Canadien Mike Komisarek.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to walk away with more than just stories and a good time. All participants in the event will be eligible to receive one of three incredible prizes: a BMW 328i Convertible, Courtesy of Habberstad BMW of Huntington, 2 Kawasaki Jet Ski's & Trailer, Courtesy of Jet Sport or a Suzuki Scooter, Courtesy of Jet Sport .

After joining the Islanders front office staff last summer, successfully bolstering the Jr. Islanders program and its commitment to enhancing Long Island's youth hockey programs, Webb decided to take it a step farther by forming the W20 Foundation, with the mission statement of "Creating Educational Opportunities, Through Hockey"

"The youth hockey talent pool is growing at a rapid pace on Long Island," said Webb. "At the moment there are approximately 5000 kids participating in youth hockey on Long Island. It's our goal to bring the Long Island youth hockey families together. We want the passion from hockey families to come forward. This foundation is looking to grow and help a large number of families every year by balancing the expense of living on long Island and the cost of schooling."
