One of the I.C.E. Tour's goals is to reach every child on Long Island. Whether it's through visiting a camp, school, rink or setting up a barbeque at the beach or park, the I.C.E. Tour hopes to make at least a small difference in the lives of Long Island's youths.
Between May and September, the I.C.E. Tour will organize or take part in 288 events Island-wide. This includes nine RE/MAX Open Houses at the Nassau Coliseum, five Islanders Days at local rinks, three sectional barbeques for season ticketholders, and a visit to Islanders Iceworks this week during the Prospects Camp.
Throughout the summer, players including Trent Hunter, Bruno Gervais, Chris Campoli, Freddy Meyer, Andy Hilbert, Jeff Tambellini, Blake Comeau, Kyle Okposo
and Andy Hilbert have been spending weeks at a time traveling with the I.C.E. Tour.
Just last week, before taking part in the Prospects Camp, Comeau and Okposo combined their efforts to visit seven events in six days. The two core members of the Islanders signed autographs and interacted with fans at the Hofstra Summer Camp, Islanders Team Store, the Rinx, the 300s sectional barbeque, Silver Point Day Camp, Beach Day at Jones Beach and Saturday's RE/MAX Open House.
"It was great to come back to Long Island this week and meet with up with all the Islanders fans," said Okposo. "During the week I was able to meet with fans in all different areas of Long Island, some of which I have never been before. Thank you to all the fans that came down to welcome Blake and myself back to Long Island."
Added Comeau, "It is always a good thing to be able to connect with your fans off the ice. We had a busy week with quite a few events that gave us the opportunity to meet many different people in different areas around Long Island. We look forward to seeing all of the people we visited this week at upcoming Islanders games."
Over the course of the summer, the I.C.E. Tour is anticipating to give away over 1,000 hockey sticks, nearly 100 nets and more than 300 pucks and balls to youths on Long Island.
"It's an ambitious endeavor we've set forth," said Tim Beach, Islanders VP of Operations, Events and Promotions. "We're on our way to getting a goal in every driveway. It's only the first summer and we're proud of the strides we've made." Click here
