Dark clouds in the early morning opened up to bright sunny skies by tee time for the Islanders Sales Team 2009 Golf Outing on Tuesday at Stonebridge Golf Links and Country Club in Smithtown.
The event was designed for season ticket holders to come out with a guest and play some golf with their sales representatives and—most importantly—have a great time out on the course.
Participants played 18 holes with various events, contests and raffles along the way, such as facing off against their reps in a “closest to the pin” contest.
“We’re having a good time out here, it’s a beautiful day and hopefully everybody is having a good time,” said Islanders Senior Sales Executive Brian Davis. “It’s an appreciation outing for our clients and they’re also bringing a prospect out that they think would be a good fit for Islanders tickets.”
Among the former Islanders who stopped by to mingle with the participants were Bob Nystrom, Mike Bossy and Steve Webb.
“My buddy is a season ticket holder and he invited me out today,” said Kings Park native and longtime Islanders fan Jim Troddon. “My brother has season tickets so we go to a ton of games. Our family is into hockey and my son plays with the Long Island Royals. I love hockey and love golf, so it’s a good opportunity to come out and play. When I was growing up I remember sitting in bed listening to the Islander games [and now] I just met Bobby Nystrom, so that was pretty cool.”
Webb, who now works for the NHL Players Association, joined forces with some of the season ticket holders and enjoyed his first golf outing of the summer.
“Once the rain got out of here it was nice to see the clouds disappear and get some holes in,” Webb said. “It was my first swing of the season and it was a good start. I’ve got some good of guys in my group. They’re going head to head with each other so its good to hear them chirping at each other just like the guys would do in the dressing room, so it’s a good time.”
The upcoming NHL Entry Draft has created a lot of excitement among the fans, and many are looking forward to attending the Draft Party June 26th at Nassau Coliseum.
“I might be getting season tickets this year and I’m really looking forward to the Draft and would love to attend the draft party,” Troddon said.
With the Draft just three weeks away, Islanders fans are already excited about the coming season.
“We’re at the games whenever we can and we have season tickets for next year,” season ticket holder Pat Reynolds said. “We’ll definitely be at the Draft Party and we’re looking forward to a good team next year.”
Following the full day of golf, Islanders ticket holders and their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and dinner at Stonebridge.
