Classes across Long Island were back in session on Monday, January 5th, and with that, so was the “We’re All Islanders” school assembly tour. Four new schools kicked off their first week back with a fun-filled assembly featuring New York Islanders arena hostess Dina and her good friend, Sparky. More than 1,500 kids sat through an assembly featuring a funny race involving students working together to get a classmate dressed up in goalie gear as they raced against one of their teachers who was all alone while trying to complete the same task. Students also enjoyed a short video of the current Islanders explaining how the same concepts of teamwork they live by apply in the world of education. Dina added by drawing parallels between the school and the Islanders organization with comparisons of a coach being like a teacher and students being equivalent to the players on the ice. Schools visited this week included Lynbrook South Middle School, John Pearl Elemetnary, Smithtown Elementary and PS 101 in Forrest Hills, as the school assembly tour has now been expanded into schools in Queens.
