School Assembly Program Makes Final Stop At Connolly Elementary

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

Today marked the final day for the Islanders' school assembly program as Steve Webb, Samantha the Ice Girl, and Sparky made their way up to Glen Cove to visit the students of Connolly Elementary. Over 320 students packed into the gym to listen to the former Islander speak about the importance of teamwork. Steve educated the young crowd about the importance of unity and working together through stories of his playing days, starting when he was 6 years old. Through the aid of an Islanders TV video, Steve talked about teamwork. A highlight of the assembly was a demonstration of teamwork. Sparky went into the crowd to choose three students to be on a team with Samantha. The four of them raced against a teacher, seeing who could dress in goalie equipment the fastest. As you would expect, the teacher struggled to put on the pads alone, while the students and Samantha were able to work together quickly and efficiently. Once the assembly concluded, the children returned to their classrooms only to find out that the Islanders had left them each a great gift bag.
