Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

The holidays can be a difficult time for American servicemen and women who, instead of spending time with their families, are protecting our borders and interests abroad.

While we can’t bring everyone home for the holidays, the New York Islanders are asking you to join the team and the American Red Cross in bringing a little holiday cheer and spirit to them. On Dec. 6, fans who bring a card for the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign will receive a voucher for one free ticket (per family) to the team’s upcoming game Dec. 15 vs. the Dallas Stars.

“The New York Islanders are proud to be part of this effort being made by the Red Cross,” Ann Rina, Islanders Community Relations Manager, said. “A greeting card is such a simple gesture and the least we can do for those brave men and women who will be away from home during the holidays.”

Cards can be handmade or store bought, but care packages and monetary gifts cannot be sent through this campaign. The cards will be accepted Dec. 6 on the plaza outside of the box office at 6 p.m. before the Isles take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

If you can not make it to the game, but still wish to send a card, they can be mailed to:

Holiday Mail For Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

The deadline to mail holiday cards is Dec. 9.
