Joel Rechlicz continued his busy week on Long Island with the Islanders I.C.E. Tour by heading up the North Shore this morning to visit the children of the Glen Cove YMCA. With the interactive inflatables all up and running at 10 a.m., the I.C.E. Tour set up a mini amusement park for the children where they could race through an obstacle course, jump on the moon-bounce, and test their accuracy at the slap-shot booth. Sparky the Dragon, the Islanders’ official mascot, was also on hand, meeting all of the Islander young fans. Perhaps the best part of the area the I.C.E. Tour had set up was the autograph area where Rechlicz had the chance to meet every camper who was in attendance. Rechlicz took pictures with many of the kids and signed an autograph for each child and counselor that stopped by. Other than signing autographs, Joel and a team of campers competed against his “arch-rival,” Sparky, and his team in several games of street hockey.
“The kids are great!” Rechlicz said. “We had some really intense street hockey games. It was awesome to be in a game of such high intensity. It feels just like a game against one of our top rivals during the regular season.”
