The New York Islanders two-game winning streak came to a close on Friday night, as the Isles fell 3-2 to the LA Kings at UBS Arena.
Phillip Danault, Arthur Kaliyev and Gabriel Vilardi scored three goals in a 5:34 span of the second period to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead for LA. Noah Dobson scored a power-play goal late in the second period, while Adam Pelech scored late in the third.
While the loss did not cost the Islanders (67 points, 62 games played) their spot in the first wild card in the Eastern Conference, they did lose a bit of their cushion, as the Buffalo Sabres (64 points, 57 games played) beat the Florida Panthers 3-1 in regulation to jump into the second wild card close the gap in the standings.
