FINAL

The New York Islanders picked up a point to extend their point streak to four games (3-0-1), but the Washington Capitals won 4-3 in the eighth round of a shootout on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.

THE SCORING:
First Period:
12:21 - WSH 1, NYI 0 -Anthony Mantha tipped in a shot from Evgeny Kuznetsov past Semyon Varlamov to put the Capitals on the board with the game's icebreaker. Conor Sheary also picked up an assist.
Second Period:
4:55 - NYI 1, WSH 1 - From a sharp angle, Brock Nelson puts in a rebound to equalize the score 1-1. Zdeno Chara and Noah Dobson recorded the assists.
17:02 - NYI 2, WSH 1 - Kyle Palmieri buried a slick feed from Josh Bailey on the doorstep to give the Islanders their first lead of the game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau also collected an assist on the goal.
Third Period:
10:13 - WSH 2, NYI 2 - Washington tied the game up 2-2 as Axel Jonsson-Fjallby scored his first NHL goal off a feed from Dmitry Orlov.
15:02 - WSH 3, NYI 2 -Alexander Ovechkin scored off a faceoff win to overtake sole possession for third in all-time goals scored in NHL history (767) and restored the Capitals' lead to 3-2. Evgeny Kuznetsov registered an assist.
18:01 - NYI 3, WSH 3 - With the goalie pulled, the Islanders equalized the score late 3-3 as Anders Lee buried a rebound in the low slot. Noah Dobson and Brock Nelson collected the assists.
