Class was in session for the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Woodland Middle School in East Meadow this morning, but rather than the usual math equations, spelling tests, and pop quizzes you would expect, they were instead directed to the auditorium for a special lecture from Islander alumni Steve Webb and Eric Cairns.  The alumni were there as a part of the “We’re All Islanders” school assembly program, and over the course of three periods, talked to each grade about the importance of working as a team.  The students also participated in a question and answer period with the former players, asking them everything from who inspired them to first play hockey, to how they chose their respective numbers.  Samantha the Ice Girl was also on hand to answer some questions about what it is like to be an Ice Girl.  Everyone in attendance had a great time and all 1,200 students went home with a great Islanders gift bag.
