The New York Islanders announced today that Denis Potvin will return on Saturday, Nov. 29 when the team takes on the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m. The organization will honor him as a part of the festivities planned to honor the legends of the organization and memorable moments that have taken place at Nassau Coliseum throughout the building’s 43-year history. Full-season ticket holders and fans who purchased the “Tradition on Ice Ticket Package” will receive a Potvin mini locker stall.
Potvin, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, was the captain of Islanders four Stanley Cup Championship squads. The nine-time NHL All-Star also won the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman three times (1976, 1978 and 1979). He played his entire 15-year career on Long Island from 1973 to 1988.
As part of the team’s final season at the Coliseum, the Islanders are dedicating nights that take place in the first half of the season to Billy Smith (Saturday, Nov. 22), Bob Nystrom (Saturday, Dec. 6) and Clark Gillies (Saturday, Dec. 13).
