STANDINGS: Following last night's 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Islanders remain in third place in the Atlantic Division with 18 points (9-5-0) after 14 games played. The loss dropped the Islanders four points behind first-place Philadelphia. The New York Rangers remain a point ahead of the Islanders, who have three games in hand.


The Islanders have still played in the least number of games in the entire NHL. Each team in the Eastern Conference has played in at least two more games. Throughout the entire NHL, the Islanders are tied with the St. Louis Blues for least games played this season.


SPECIAL TEAMS: The Islanders power play ranks tied for sixth in the NHL with a 22.2 percent conversion rate. On the road, the team has been scoring at a league-best 33.3 clip.

The penalty kill ranks seventh in the NHL as they have been negating 85.28 percent of their opponents power plays.

Last night, the Islanders penalty kill thwarted off both Philadelphia power plays. Over the course of the past two games, the Islanders penalty kill has only had to go to work twice. 


GETTING IN THE WAY: Brendan Witt remains seventh in the NHL in blocked shots with 44. Last night in Philadelphia, Witt blocked three shots to up his total. Last season, he finished fifth the league with a total of 207. Everyone above him in the rankings has played in either 16, 17 or 18 games, compared to his 14.


I'LL TAKE IT: Mike Sillinger once again leads the Islanders with a 54.8 faceoff winning percentage. He ranks seventh in the NHL by taking 33.8 percent of the Islanders faceoffs. Last season, Sillinger ranked fourth in the NHL with a 58.8 faceoff winning percentage.
