Plays of the Week

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

We’re going streaking!

The Islanders ran the table last week going 3-0-0, extending their point streak to 10 games (8-0-2). They aren’t going through the quad and into the gymnasium, but rather going up the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference standings. This week, the Islanders won all three games against divisional opponents, improving to 7-0-2 vs. the Metro.

GOAL OF THE WEEK: KYLE OKPOSO

Kyle Okposo takes home this week’s honors with his shootout winner on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. If the shootout is a skills competition, then Okposo has some serious skills. Check out the beauty toe drag, as he pulls the puck around Michal Neuvirth before roofing it under the crossbar from a sharp angle. One word: wow.

SAVE OF THE WEEK: JAROSLAV HALAK

Both Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss were solid this week, as Halak turned in a 43-save – plus three more in the shootout – gem against the Flyers and solid outing against Columbus, while Greiss made 27 saves for his first shutout as an Islander. No disrespect to Greiss, but Halak gets the save of the week, coming up with three good saves in a row in a tie game in the third period. The best of the sequence comes at the end, when Halak gloves Pierre-Eduoard Bellemare’s try at a half-open net.
