In all, the Pee Wee Islanders are looking for five defensemen, nine forwards, and two goalies—born in 1996 or 1997 to compete in the AAA International Division. Tryouts will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cantiague Park Ice Rink. Please fill out the form below if you are planning on attending the tryout. All travel players are welcome to tryout.
“This is a great opportunity for some of Long Island’s brightest young talent to come to the forefront,” said Dan Bedard, Director of the Islanders Amateur Hockey Development Program. “This will be an elite team that will play very competitive hockey.”
The season will culminate at the 50th Quebec International Pee Wee Tournament, held February 12–22, 2009. Considered by many to be the most important Pee Wee hockey tournament in the world, the 50th Quebec International Pee Week Hockey Tournament will be held at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec.
The tournament groups more than 2,300 Pee Wee hockey players (11-12 year olds) from 16 countries to participate in the world championship of Pee-Wee hockey.
Over the years, the Islanders Pee Wee Select Team has been a regular competitor in
Quebec, and Long Island-born players such as Mike Komisarek, Eric Nystrom, Vladi Nikiforov, and Chris Higgins have donned the Islanders jersey at the tournament.
Among the other players who have competed at the Quebec tournament include Islanders Hall of Famer Mike Bossy and Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro
, as well as Wayne Gretzky, and Mario Lemieux.
Other important dates for the Pee Wee Islanders include a November 4 game against the Pee Wee Rangers at Madison Square Garden and a January 13 matchup against the Pee Wee Rangers at the Nassau Coliseum,
