Ray Emery recorded 18 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Islanders fell 2-0 to the Ottawa Senators at the Scotiabank Place Wednesday night.

The Senators went up 1-0 when Daniel Alfredsson's centering pass bounced off Sean Hill right to Mike Fisher, who banged home the loose puck with 1:48 left in the first period.

Bruno Gervais made the defensive play of the game, in the second period, by diving across to block Alfredsson's shot ticketed for the back of the net.

The Islanders almost escaped four minutes of consecutive penalty kill time, including two minutes of a 5-on-3 power play. Chris Kelly ultimately put the Senators up by two, re-directing Anton Volchenkov's shot from the point with one second left on the power play, late in the third period.

Rick DiPietro played well in goal, keeping it close, but it wasn't enough as he stopped 27 of 29 shots.

The Islanders next play on Saturday, December 30 at the Nassau Coliseum against the New Jersey Devils.
